Why Choose a Prosthodontist to do your veneers?
Prosthodontists are the only dental specialists with advanced training in dental esthetics as part of their accredited specialty education. Unlike cosmetic dentistry — which is not recognized as an ADA specialty and has no standardized training requirements — prosthodontics requires extensive education in complex restorative and esthetic cases.
In addition to advanced esthetic expertise, prosthodontists are trained to manage:
- Bite alignment
- Jaw function
- Long-term durability of restorations
This means your veneers won’t just look beautiful — they’ll be designed to function properly and comfortably for years to come!
What are Veneers?
Veneers (or dental veneers) are thin, custom-made porcelain or composite shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. Designed to look and feel natural, veneers can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile while also helping protect the underlying tooth structure.
Veneers are an excellent option if you’re dealing with:
- Discolored or stained teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Worn or uneven teeth
- Gaps or mild crowding
At Dental & TMJ Specialists of Greater DC, every veneer is carefully customized to your facial features, bite, and esthetic goals. We use a combination of advanced digital technology and dental photography to ensure your smile look natural, balanced, and uniquely yours. Most patients can’t stop smiling once they see the results.
Benefits of Dental Veneers
Veneers offer both cosmetic and functional advantages, including:
- A More beautiful, confident smile: Veneers can brighten teeth, improve symmetry, enhance shape, and create a fuller, more youthful smile completely transform your smile.
- Protection for your teeth: In addition to improving appearance, veneers help restore damaged or worn-down teeth to help prevent further wear
- Long-lasting results: With proper care, veneers can last for 10 years or more.
- Fully customizable: From shade to shape to size and contour, your veneers are designed specifically for you.
- Variety of materials available: veneers can be made from different tooth-colored materials, each with its own benefits. We work closely with you to choose the best material based on your goals, oral health, bite, and lifestyle.
- Ceramic veneers can be made from feldspathic porcelain, Emax (lithium disilicate), or zirconia. Ceramics are strong, stain resistant, and have a highly natural appearance
- Composite veneers are made from a tooth-colored resin that is carefully shaped and polished directly onto the teeth. These can be used for minor cosmetic improvements or patients seeking a more affordable option.
- Easy maintenance: Veneers are cared for just like natural teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental visits
