Meeting With a Specialist
Patients undergoing radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy are encouraged to meet with the specialists at Dental & TMJ Specialists of Greater DC before and after their medical treatments. With extensive hours of clinical training, education, and experience, our specialists can prepare patients’ teeth and gums and the mouth in general prior to therapy as well as afterward, when treatment is completed.
Dry Mouth
It is also important to note that xerostomia, better known as dry mouth, can be detrimental towards the prevention of caries (cavities) as well as the optimal denture success. Dryness can be a result of a systemic syndrome or related to medications used for treatments other than systemic disorders.
Patients who experience consistent dry mouth or any other questionable symptoms are recommended to contact their medical physician or Prosthodontist for a consultation.
