Cosmetic and restorative dentistry is important for enhancing the way you look and the functionality of your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on enhancing the appearance of your smile. A cosmetic dentist may focus on dental veneers, teeth whitening, and dental inlays and overlays. Restorative and cosmetic dentistry treatments may be combined during certain dental procedures as well. Cosmetic dental treatments or restorative dental procedures may address the shade of your teeth, shape, oral health, or the appearance of missing teeth or chipped teeth.

Dental Veneers

One common cosmetic procedure is the placement of dental veneers. Dental Veneers are thin coverings that are placed over the visible front part of the tooth. Veneers are made from sturdy dental composite and porcelain. This cosmetic dental treatment improves the aesthetics of a smile and/or protects the tooth’s surface from damage. Veneers can be used to correct a wide range of dental issues, such as teeth that are stained and cannot be whitened by bleaching, chipped or worn teeth. Patients at Dental & TMJ Specialists or Greater DC, rave about the natural looking appeal once the treatment has been completed by our doctors.

zoom teeth whitening

Teeth Whitening

Patients at Dental & TMJ Specialists of Greater DC have multiple choices when creating their bright, white smile. The first option is an in-office treatment where teeth whitening is done professionally using the Zoom method. Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel is applied to the teeth. The Zoom light penetrates the teeth and breaks up the stains and discolorations. Immediately following this procedure, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste-gel is applied to the teeth.

The second option is an at-home treatment system where patients can whiten their teeth using customized dental trays along with thin applications of whitening gel as prescribed by our specialists per week.

Inlays / Overlays

Inlays and overlays are commonly referred to as partial crowns and are often used to restore a tooth, strengthen it, and prevent further damage. The existing tooth will be used as a base, and the inlay or overlay is placed on it consisting of a ceramic composite or gold, per the patient’s choice.
